The GameBCN 2014 – 2015 program was the first edition of our videogame incubator. We received 42 applications, had 16 interviews and selected a final 8 teams. The teams chosen to participate all had designed 100% original games, with fully formed teams and playable games. The participants were mostly from Catalonia, however there were also teams from the rest of Spain and Europe.
The teams were provided with 140 square meters of office space at the new hub for international accelerators, mStartupBarcelona. With 24/7 access to the space, many teams could be seen working well into the night and in the early hours of the morning. They were also provided access to additional spaces: the Testing and Music Room and the Motion Capture Room.
The 4 month intensive program kept the participants on their toes. Over 75 hours of training were given in the following topics: Game Production, Game Design, Monetisation, Game analytics, PR and Customer care, Legal, Human Resources and Game Distribution. Additionally, teams were advised on various landmarks: the creation of a company, fundraising, time to market, monetization and marketing procedures.
The program also saw GameBCN´s participation in various events; including the Game Developers´ Conference, Electronic Entertainment Expo, Mobile World Congress, 4YFN and more. These events provided invaluable opportunities to network and meet some of the top publishers and influencers in the gaming industry.
The program culminated with the Official Demo Day, where the videogame teams presented their projects in front of an audience of over 200 investors, publishers and industry professionals at Caixa Forum in Barcelona, Spain. You can view photos of the event here or watch a video recap here.
After the Demo Day, qualifying companies were selected to participate in the 8 month Acceleration Program.
We´re thrilled to kick off our incubation program with such a successful first edition, brimming with talent and success stories waiting to happen. We can´t wait to see what the next edition will bring!
The incubation program did begin on October 1st and ended in March 2016 in the mStartupBarcelona space, in the MediaTIC building.
